Mission

The mission of the Jordan Porco Foundation is to prevent suicide, promote mental health, and create a message of hope for young adults.
JPF provides engaging and uplifting programming emphasizing peer-to-peer messaging promoting help seeking behavior, self-care, and coping skills. Their programs challenge stigma by talking openly about mental health, and educating about the risk factors and warning signs of suicide and other related mental health concerns. Through awareness, education, and innovative programming, JPF is challenging stigma around mental health and help-seeking, creating open conversations about the prevalence of suicide and mental health issues, and saving young adult lives.

What We Do

What began in 2011 as JPF's pilot Fresh Check Day program, has grown into their signature one. Over 250 colleges and universities in 45 states across the country have hosted Fresh Check Day, and counting.
To keep pace with the growing need for programming like theirs, JPF not only adapted Fresh Check Day to the virtual space, they added programs to create a unique portfolio of lifesaving programming that includes, Fresh Check Day, Check In, 4 What's Next, and Nine out of Ten.
JPF's Check In program takes the best of Fresh Check Day and makes it available to schools, communities, and workplaces outside of the higher ed sector.

4 What's Next is a primary prevention program that builds resilience in middle and high school-aged students by giving them the tools to handle stress and distress now and in their future. This program encourages open conversations about mental health and coping skills in a succinct, affordable format that can be facilitated by anyone working with youth.

To keep the peer-to-peer mental health dialogue "fresh" and at the forefront, JPF created their Nine out of Ten Ambassador program that consists of dedicated college students from across the U.S. who serve as a rotating student advisory committee to the foundation. Ambassadors play an integral role at JPF, providing the student perspective to organizational campaigns and programmatic decision-making.
