Mission

Food for the Spirit uses the arts and creative facilitation to support racial healing, ecological justice, and equitable food systems. We do this by: encouraging dialogue around issues of race and racism in the food system; facilitating the development of place-based networks, collective advocacy, and collaboration; and supporting community storytelling, shifting narratives and public understanding.

What We Do

Founded in 2018, Food for the Spirit (F4tS) builds power through relational-organizing and trust-building. F4tS strives for racial equity and food sovereignty through collective decision-making and we employ systems-thinking with a just transition perspective, starting every facilitation process by engaging people in determining a collective strategy and vision for our efforts.

Partnering with people and communities in Buffalo / Western New York (WNY), central New York (NY), and throughout New York State (NYS), F4tS develops and supports networks where people work together to address the issues they experience. F4tS's largest network is the Buffalo Food Equity Network (BFEN), made up of nearly 200 people of color working to support a movement for WNY's new food economyYi initiatives that fight the conventional food system currently under-serving communities of color.
