Food AND Medicine is a grassroots, member-based organization that works to address the root causes of poverty through building power and leadership among affected communities in Eastern Maine. We partner with unions, faith-based organizations, farms and community groups to create solutions toward positive change. Our work and our name is based on the belief that nobody should have to choose between food, medicine and other basic necessities. We view our work as solidarity, not charity.
What We Do
Our main programs include food justice through a network of collective gardens in low-income housing and substance use recovery locations, SNAP advocacy and education; organizing for improved public transportation. As of March 2020, we are re-focusing to organize volunteers in various ways to support the low-income community during the Covid pandemic.
