Mission

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life of seniors to ensure their equal access to social, economic and political systems in a safe, nurturing and secure environment.

The role that the seniors play in human service, leadership, education and as the keepers of our history is invaluable to the community. It is important that they are recognized and respected by the community.

The East Palo Alto Senior Center provides services and activities that foster independence which promotes the quality of life for Seniors.

What We Do

Meals
The East Palo Alto Senior Center provides daily nutritious breakfasts, hot lunches, and weekly brown bag meals to seniors residing in East Palo Alto, especially seniors with low incomes. The City of East Palo Alto provides the lunch program. EPASC, Inc. provides the breakfast program, with a continental breakfast each day. A hot "country" breakfast is offered each Thursday. The Second Harvest Food Bank provides a Brown Bag program on Thursday which gives seniors fresh produce and food pantry items.

Health
Periodic Health Screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and heart disease are offered quarterly. Exercise and physical activities include a weekly Tai Chi class, strengthening programs, and bi-weekly line dancing. Health related brochures and pamphlets (e.g. breast cancer diagnosis, prostate cancer detection) from local agencies are available at no cost to seniors, and are maintained in the Center's reception area.

Transportation
Seniors needing transportation from home to the Senior Center are provided free rides daily using a van and driver provided by the City of East Palo. Transportation is also provided for field trips, and special outings or events.

Classes
Weekly classes in arts and crafts, Bible study, are provided. Periodically, computer classes are offered in the "computer room" which has eight (8) workstations, access to a network printer, scanner, and copying equipment.

Recreation
For social and recreational activities, the Senior Center is an enjoyable place to meet friends daily, have nutritious meals, listen to music, or watch a cable accessed TV program.
