Mission

EBASE advances economic, racial and social justice by building a just economy in the East Bay based on good jobs and healthy communities. We address the root causes of economic injustice by developing strategic alliances among community, faith, and labor to build power and create change with low-income workers and communities of color.

What We Do

Since 1999, EBASE has concretely improved the lives of 20,000 people in the East Bay through critical support of worker campaigns and the passage of eight living wage policies and three local hire agreements. With a sustained record of successful campaign strategies, based on a foundation of targeted research, EBASE helps leaders make informed decisions that positively impact disadvantaged workers and residents during a time of increasing inequality.

Currently, EBASE convenes Revive Oakland, a coalition working to secure a community jobs agreement for the redevelopment of the former Oakland Army Base. The Army Base is a 333-acre site in West Oakland that will be transformed into a state-of-the art international trade and logistics center to serve the Port of Oakland. This project is one of the largest redevelopment projects in decades and presents an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring thousands of jobs to Oakland. EBASE won an enforceable agreement with the City of Oakland in 2012 to ensure that local residents can access, retain, and benefit from these new jobs.
