We are a faith-based non-profit organization located in Hamtramck that serves as a compassionate ministry, strengthening families through community connections and offering help with basic human needs to residents. Helping to build a more resilient, food-secure community by providing the tools needed to build self-sufficiency.

What We Do

Detroit Friendship House is a community-based organization focused on meeting the immediate need for food security in Hamtramck's low-income, immigrant, and refugee communities.
Our client-choice model food pantry offers access to culturally relevant, nutritious food, ensuring that families can select items that align with their dietary preferences and needs.
We also advance food justice through nutrition education and programs like SWAP, promoting healthier eating habits.

Beyond food assistance, we empower individuals through education and coaching programs that help build self-sufficiency. Our ESL and citizenship classes support immigrant women in overcoming language barriers and understanding the naturalization process. Additionally, our Pathways to Growth Program provides personalized coaching to help clients achieve job skills, financial security, and long-term stability.
