Choices in Childbirth is a non-profit organization that strives to improve maternity care by helping women make informed decisions about where, how and with whom to birth. Through education, outreach and advocacy, we provide information to the public about women’s rights and options in birth.

What We Do

Choices in Childbirth is a non-profit organization that strives to improve maternity care and birth experiences by providing access to information about the range of choices available regarding where and with whom to birth. So often we hear from the women we work with that the decisions they made about their birth environment and the people that they invited to share in their birth experience all fundamentally affected the outcome of their birth and their level of satisfaction.

At Choices in Childbirth we do not endorse any one method, style or philosophy of birth or birth education. Rather, we strive to present all of the options available to women and their family so that they can appreciate the benefits of each. We make available evidence-based research as well as local statistics on hospitals and birth centers to help inform these decisions. We offer suggestions of things to consider and questions to ask in order to sift through this wealth of information so that a woman and her family are empowered to find care providers and settings that support their values and individual needs in childbearing.
