Mission
We are building communities where children are free from abuse and neglect. What We Do
The CAN Council serves Arenac, Bay, Huron and Saginaw counties through the following programs:Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) are highly trained volunteers serving as the voice for children who are in the court system due to abuse and neglect. Each CASA volunteer advocates on behalf of one child or family at a time, as opposed to the full caseloads managed by DHHS workers and lawyer-guardians ad litem. These volunteers stay with each case until it is closed and the child or sibling group is placed in a safe, permanent home.
Children's Advocacy Centers (CAC) provide a safe, supportive environment in which children who have been physically or sexually abused or have witnessed a violent act can be interviewed and examined.
Child Abuse Prevention Education (CAPE) focuses on creating awareness of the prevalence of child abuse and neglect, along with programming geared towards K-12 students, parents and professionals that provides actionable tools to ensure a safer community for all children.
