Mission

Serving its 100,000th client this year, The Wardrobe's mission is to eliminate clothing insecurity and curb fashion waste. Whether it's workwear for a job search and employment, attire for a life transition, or casual clothing for everyday, The Wardrobe believes clothing shouldn't be a barrier to success. The nonprofit organization outfits 5,000 people annually and partners with 200+ community organizations.

Formerly known as The Career Wardrobe, The Wardrobe was started in 1995 and has locations throughout the 5-county Philadelphia region where they can receive personal assistance either in person or virtually by ordering a Wardrobe Box. Each year the nonprofit organization upcycles 200,000+ pounds of gently used and new clothing to provide a stable source of free quality clothing for its participants.

What We Do

The Wardrobe believes clothing shouldn't be a barrier to success. We work to eliminate clothing insecurity which can mean not having anything to wear or not having the right thing to wear. Whether someone is in need of an outfit for work or everyday life, they receive access to free clothing while receiving the STAR Treatment - Styling, Time, Advice, and Respect.

Outfitted with clothing from The Wardrobe our guests are dressed to move forward to work to stabilize their lives after experiencing trauma, incarceration or homelessness or transition to work or move into a better job.

Our Wardrobes in Philadelphia and Delaware County, PA (and coming soon - Chester County!) provide a sustainable shopping experience for our supporters who share the sales floor with our participants while they select their outfits at no charge. For those outside our area, we offer the Wardrobe Box both as a seasonal subscription box similar to Stitch Fix for shoppers or personally styled for free for participants.
