Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond (BGCMR) delivers programs through five Clubs, a teen space, and a new Teen Center, strategically located in four different under-resourced neighborhoods: Richmond's Northside, Southside, East End, and Petersburg, Virginia. Our mission is to empower young people, especially those from historically marginalized communities, to succeed in life.
What We Do
For over 65 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond has offered a safe and supportive out-of-school environment for our youth. While we have always served youth ages 6 through 18, our recent strategic plan and capital campaign increasingly place teens, young adults, and member families at the core of our programming. We now serve youth ages 6 to 23, with an emphasis on youth and young adults ages 10 to 23. We collaborate with member families as accountability partners and address fragilities within households that might hinder youth achievement and family stability. We believe that education is a fundamental component to a successful life. Through our consistent presence, youth develop skills, social connections and agency required to make positive decisions and stay on track. We strive to be an effective influence, ensuring youth are life-ready for college, technical training, military or gainful employment. Program offerings/learning opportunities are increasingly individualized and youth-led, enabling members to cultivate their own voices for leadership and change. We are committed to providing more equitable access to extracurricular opportunities, ensuring physical and emotional safety for youth with adverse childhood experiences, and fostering strong relationships between youth and mentors.
