The Grace Project

To improve the quality of education for children in rural Africa by providing affordable quality education, basic health-care, nutritional food and a home for those that have been orphaned as a result of HIV/Aids and other tragedies.

What did Joseph need?

Our ability to continue to provide education, meals and basic health to vulnerable children and their families in rural Kenya depends on our ability to articulate our interventions and their success to our stakeholders. However, as the needs increase and competition for scarce resources intensifies, we need to be able to set goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely; and we must clearly communicate them to our stakeholders. More and more of our funders are demanding this and we have recently lost a grant due to the failure to create a plan for the organization.

What did Karen have to offer?

I am fairly confident the new direction I will seek for my career will be in more of a philanthropic non-profit direction at some point. Today, I am interested in finding new experiences that will both help me get a better understanding of the inner workings of the non-profit world while also using my experience to support those that are already following their passion. Plus, I just simply have a big heart and if I can be of help, then I would like to be. I am inspired by meeting people who are moving their dreams into reality. As Group Treasurer of a large financial services organization my role was to set a vision and strategic plan that both motivates individuals and aligns with the broader goals of the company. I worked closely with team members to set specific measurable goals that support our plan. I was a board member for internal companies that were tasked with ensuring appropriate strategic plans were in place. Clear direction setting is also a skill I contribute to my husband's most recent start up.

Karen was such a pleasure to work with. She was very knowledgeable and delivered a superb product. She came to meetings on time and was always prepared. Her work will guide our organization for the next four years.
