What did Liberty in North Korea need?

Peter helped Liberty in North Korea

Why is this project important?

We believe in data to help us understand our impact and also provide us with direction. We know that within our existing donor base there are a lot of opportunities to leverage and build off existing relationships, but we need help figuring out how to identify key donors and then we need some guidance on what exactly to do. Having an outside professional working with us will also be crucial by bringing fresh perspective and feedback on what we have been doing thus far.

This project will save us $8,000, allowing us to rescue and help bring to freedom almost 3 North Korean refugees!

I am a business major at the Queen’s School of Business. From 2010 to 2012, I was a correspondent for Japan Today, an English-language news publication based out of Tokyo. During my tenure, I achieved several milestones, including interviews with management from Canadian branches of Japanese Fortune 500 firms; 750 000 views; and a CNN feature on how Japan can learn from Canadian immigration. I was also selected to represent my university at the Japan-Canada Academic Consortium, arguing for the viability of free trade. It was on this topic that I also based my speech submission to the Canadian National Japanese Speech Contest, which I successfully won in 2013. I have prided myself on a strong international background from an early age, and applied this background toward the first steps of my professional career.

My interest in international business and data analytics extends to include summer internships. I was an intern for FCA (Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles) in Detroit the past two summers. During both internships, I applied strong data analysis skills to facilitate development of new vehicle launch strategies. Part of my responsibility last summer involved developing “Quick Hit” market impact reports of competitor vehicles. In this role, I used my knowledge of East Asian culture to gain key insights into competitive Japanese cars. As a result of my contribution, our team oversaw a successful vehicle launch, and was better prepared to respond to competitive actions from several of our main rivals. A secondary function of this job was working together with a team from Italy on the brand launch of Alfa Romeo, which provided significant exposure in cross-cultural collaboration and understanding.

Following graduation, I plan on pursuing graduate degrees in public policy and economics. Specialization in public policy will be targeted. The Kennedy School of Government and the University of Toronto have programmes centered on both, and will be my primary targets during this period. I advocate public policy conducive to economic growth and maximisation of well-being of all stakeholders.
