What did Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children need?

Mitch helped Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children express their voice and articulate their key messages with well-written and compelling marketing and communications materials.

Why is this project important?

While the school has been in existence for 32 years and has results that no other deaf education program in the state or nationally can match, we have very low brand awareness. We want to attract new families whose children will be able to achieve extraordinary academic and personal success by attending NWSDHHC. We also want to attract students at the preschool level because entering our program early on produces the best outcome for deaf children. If we are successful in these two endeavors, we will be able to sustain the school for at least another 32 years.

This project will save us $4,212, allowing us to provide deaf education services to 101 deaf and hard of hearing children in the Greater Puget Sound Region.

I believe that each and every person is an integral part of their local community as well as the global community. With that in mind, I try to make sure that each decision I make has a positive impact on the health and safety of the world around me while minimizing negative impacts. This is a philosophy that I hold myself to on a personal as well as a professional level.

Through my experience, knowledge, and skills as a chemist, I know that I can provide accurate and defensible data and proper analytical services to clients and regulatory bodies regarding industrial waste samples, and waste-, ground-, and surface-water samples in order to monitor the impact that human activity is having on the environment. This is also applicable to analysis of drinking water, food, and other materials for human or other consumption regarding the potential hazards to people or communities.

I am currently working at Aquatic Research Inc in Seattle, WA where we aim to provide a wide range of analytical techniques for water quality and watershed studies. Specifically, I analyze metals, minerals, and nutrients in water, food, soil, and other sample matrices using an ICP-OES and an ICP-MS.

In addition to my chemistry background, I enjoy technical and persuasive writing. I am hoping to implement these skills by working with various environmental and social non-profits for marketing, fundraising or other needs that might arise. I am just beginning my search for organizations with which to work and will hopefully be able to make an impact in my free time as well.

Every year (for at least 15 yrs.) when our younger kids start to learn about decimals and "0", our Board Chair comes to school dressed was the Masked Crusader, Zero the Hero. He is fun and funny and staff and kids alike love the visit.
