What did Prison Yoga Project need?

Sara helped Prison Yoga Project

Why is this project important?

This is the next logical step in our growth. We have done a lot of foundation building. We have four or five sources of revenue but at this stage they're insufficient to grow the organization. We need more boots on the ground. Bringing yoga and mindfulness into prisons requires training more teachers, supporting the teachers who go in, supervision, support. We have PYP-trained teachers in sixty prisons and jails, countless community rehab, reentry and detention facilities including some of the best known in the country...but this is just the beginning. There are 3750 prisons in the US.

This project will save us $5,140, allowing us to sustain 125 classes, helping teachers who need it.

I have a background in public health, and am the Managing Partner at a consulting firm focused on health and gender internationally. I have extensive experience in research and evaluation, but also have experience in development strategy, and building brands for resource mobilization. This is an aspect of my work that I'm leaning towards more and more, and would love to use my skills in this area to serve your organization. I have led strategic planning sessions with past clients as part of the evaluation process, so I would be able to easily use those skills to help you move your mission forward.

What did they have to say?

The Prison Yoga Project does wonderful work. I jumped right in to lead a grant-making strategy for them, and they were very open to all of my expertise and suggestions. I continue to work with them in an advisory capacity, and they have been wonderful. They are a very energetic organization with lots of great ideas, and a purposeful mission. Very happy to have been introduced to them through Catchafire!
