The New York Academy of Medicine is a private non-profit dedicated to addressing the health of people in cities. The Academy has been around since 1847 and is focused on healthy aging, eliminating health disparities, and preventing disease. The Designing a Strong and Healthy NY Coalition (DASH-NY) was launched in 2010 and focuses on healthy communities for prevention of obesity and chronic disease through policy and systems change. DASH-NY convenes people and organizations to strategize on policy changes that will help NYS become healthier.

Our work is incredibly transformative, but our visual brand and logo don't accurately convey this. Our project could become much more successful if our brand were widely recognizable and it were better associated with the spirit of our work- which is about healthy communities, multisector collaborations, and innovation. If you work with the DASH-NY team, you are sure to learn something new from an amazing opportunity to work with smart, dedicated, and passionate change makers who lack graphic design skills!

Description

There is more to a Visual Brand than font and point size. In fact, it’s a subliminal orchestra of design elements including color, typography and composition to consistently communicate your intended meaning to your audience. Once you and your designer arrive at the right look and feel, s(he) can move forward with the creation of the perfect logo to identify your organization at the very first glance and every time.

Deliverables

  • Expert consultation regarding your Organization's mission and vision, current brand, goals, target audience, competitors, and desired branding objectives.
  • A Visual Branding Guidelines document including colors, logo, font and layout.
  • Final hi-res logo in full color and one color in agreed upon electronic formats (e.g. eps, gif, jpeg, tiff, etc.).
  • Project steps

  • Organization completes the Design Brief and delivers to Professional, along with in-depth background on mission and core values in preparation for the initial project meeting.
  • Organization and Professional meet to discuss the Design Brief and align project expectations. Organization shares any preferred logotypes and visual branding preferences.
  • Professional creates first draft of the Visual Branding Guidelines document and three different visual/design concepts for your organization's logo.
  • Organization chooses one of the three designs.
  • Professional refines selected design and presents to Organization for up to 3 rounds of review and feedback.
  • Professional delivers the finals for Organizational sign off and provides guidance on next steps.
  • Organization completes Catchafire’s project survey within 30 days of success.
  • Prerequisites

    Professional

    • Experience creating logos and visual guidlines based on clients' brand.
    • Proficiency with design software such as Adobe's creative suite.
    • Portfolio examaples you can share with an organization.

    Organization

    • A completed Design Brief.
    • Examples of preferred logotypes as a design reference.
    • Careful thought about your Organization's Visual Branding goals.
