Mission
We work to build a better world by strengthening and improving the United Nations through the engagement of people who share a global mindset and support international cooperation–global citizens.
What We Do
The World Federation of UN Associations (WFUNA) is a global non-profit organization working for a stronger and more effective United Nations, and has been working to advance the goals of the United Nations since 1946 with a membership of over 100 United Nations Associations (UNAs) and their thousands of members.
Our projects focus on building up the capacity of our UNAs so that they can advocate locally for the things that matter.
YOUth Impact: Africa is currently a project in the development stage that seeks to partner with local youth in East Africa in ending poverty and hunger. This focus on the first Millennium Development Goal will educate youth about the importance of the UN in international affairs by engaging them in a Model UN debate, an international style of debate, before training them to educate their communities on how to achieve MDG1.
Our Responsibility to Protect Program works to empower civil society with a framework for holding states accountable in the face of genocide and mass atrocity. Over the last year, members of our UNAs in Armenia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, China, and Venezuela have participated in on-the-ground R2P symposiums to raise awareness on the norm, and are now starting their own R2P networks.
Our WFUNA Youth Network activities include several international youth capacity-building trainings on human rights, peace and security, and project management. They also work to fully educate youth on the UN system.
Our Go Beyond climate change program will bring together corporations and civil society to respond effectively and innovatively to climate change and raise awareness on the individual level, ultimately leading to sustainable development and helping to bridge the North-South development divide.
