Sturge-Weber Foundation

Mission

The Sturge-Weber Foundation’s (The SWF) international mission is to improve the quality of life and care for people with Sturge-Weber syndrome and associated Port Wine Birthmark conditions through collaborative education, advocacy, research and friendly support.

What We Do

We have a reckless disregard for the impossible! Children and adults living with a visible port wine birthmark on their face and associated medical challenges require stalwart champions...please join in the fight!

We provide a caring and energized support system through one on one interaction and online learning for those facing each day with a visible port wine birthmark on their face and related medical complications such as glaucoma, seizures, ADHD, autism and more. We engage champions from around the world to treat, investigate and educate the medical community and public about the need for improved care and a cure.

For 25 years, the SWF has generated awareness for the currently 4200 people living with Sturge-Weber and the over 1 million people living with a port wine birthmark. Educational Forums held across the country in conjunction with the Centers of Excellence at world renowned medical institutions bring local families together for inspiration, insight and renewal...rare is not alone any longer!

The children's program includes projects for classroom instruction, coping with bullying and navigating the middle years as well as how to join the fight through research participation. The adults living with SWS and birthmarks are provided information on work related matters, dating and beyond.

The SWF also fosters research into the cause and cure of vascular malformations (birthmarks) and the genetics of the syndrome. Researchers from around the world have united to lend their expertise in identifying key factors that drive tissue overgrowth, immune suppression and a host of other manifesting disease expressions.

Together with a strategic plan to guide us we can be Champions to a Cure!
