The Playworks Mission: To improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play.

What We Do

Research shows that play is essential to the development of children. Playworks supports this research through partnering with Durham Public Schools to promote healthy, safe, and inclusive play for all elementary aged students. Playworks contains a five element program model that includes choice and voice for students through safe structured recess, opportunities to grow their leadership skills through a Junior Coaches program, classroom game time to introduce sports and active play to students, free developmental sports leagues, and out of school time programming.
