Director of Product

At Catchafire, our Product is not only our Website but also our Community. We are much more than a technology platform; we are a service-based, human relationship driven, talent matching business. Some of our services are delivered offline, such as our events and trainings, and our brand bleeds outside the lines of just being a Web-based business.

Until now, Catchafire’s Founder & CEO has been leading Product Development. What this means is that we’re looking for someone who is super aligned with her vision but is also so exceptional that we can eventually hand over the reigns to him/her to become the Head of Product and give him/her a seat at the management table.

Bottom line -- you must be a creative, customer-centric, product-oriented individual who thrives in an environment with limited resources, minimal guidance and lots of ambiguity. On top of this you must be a project management genius with unbelievable judgment, focus, and a bias for getting things done quickly but also with a desire for perfection.

Details of the role and responsibilities:
  • Generating and executing the product strategy through its entire development cycle, from concept to launch
  • Designing and implementing product flows (e.g. wireframes) for new features
  • Prioritizing new features that will have the maximum impact on stickiness and usability for both our social good organizations and pro bono professionals
  • Ensuring that the site is intuitive, with a sound user experience
  • Creating, managing and monitoring user metrics
  • Increasing the number of new users and returning visitors
  • Overhauling the Catchafire style-guide; making all current elements on the site consistent with the brand
  • Working with our in-house Engineering Team
  • Working with the Community Team to ensure an in-depth understanding of the issues being experienced by both social good organizations and professionals
  • Project managing the Engineering Team and Community Team
  • Overseeing QA
  • Integrating usability studies, research and market analysis into product requirements to enhance user satisfaction
On top of the 6 characteristics above, you should have:
  • Solid product/design lead experience at a consumer facing web company (community-oriented sites and marketplaces are a plus)
  • Ability to create design examples through wireframes and mockups
  • Experience designing simple and intuitive user interfaces
  • Excellent design UX/UI instincts & experience
  • Strong understanding of current web technologies, standards and how the web ecosystem is evolving
  • The ability to work with senior management to shape and execute a product roadmap without much oversight

Software Engineer

Catchafire is looking for a passionate, quality-focused engineer with a social conscience. Your job will be to support, enhance, and expand Catchafire’s pro bono matching website. If you have passion not only for technology but also for applying technology to further social causes in new and innovative ways, we’d like to speak with you. Ours is a small and highly leveraged team where self-motivation, task-focus, and efficiency are essential.

The responsibilities of this position include:
  • Doing all aspects of software development including architecture, documentation, unit testing, and deployment using Python and the Django framework
  • Coding presentation templates in HTML, CSS, Django, and JavaScript
  • Tactical presentation and user interface design
  • Working with internal sales, community, operations, and executive staff to review and implement ideas
  • Website systems administration and optimization on Ubuntu servers
  • Office desktop (primarily Mac) first responder support
Key Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position must demonstrate the following:

  • 3+ years of recent object-oriented software development experience
  • 2+ years experience coding in Python
  • 1+ years experience using the Django framework
  • 3+ years experience manually coding JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • 2+ years SQL coding experience with one or more of MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MS SQL Server
  • 2+ years experience with Unix/Linux command line shell, utilities, and administration
  • Eagerness to learn and work at all levels of the responsibility ladder
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment
  • Working knowledge of source code control and unit testing frameworks
  • Working knowledge of ORMs (e.g., DjangoORM, Hibernate)
  • 4-year college degree or equivalent experience
Valuable Experience
  • Experience using the Fabric Python library for systems administration
  • Experience using a DVCS (Mercurial preferred)
  • Experience with Apache, Nginx, WSGI, South
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, the GIMP, and/or Inkscape

Service Officer

You will be a member of a small, high performing Sales team responsible for meeting our revenue and social mission goals. You will serve our nonprofit and social enterprise customers to deliver our Membership package.

The right candidate will view this role as an opportunity to:

Your responsibilities and our expectations
  • Work tirelessly every day to hit your sales target, and set aggressive personal goals to exceed your sales target
  • Strategically develop a healthy pipeline
  • Conduct diligent follow-up with organizations in your pipeline
  • Test different messaging strategies to determine what resonates with social good organizations, in coordination with the Sales team
  • Help to develop a strategy to close sales for our nonprofit and social enterprise customers, in coordination with the Sales team
  • Generate new leads through networks, attending industry events, and other channels
  • Help to plan and organize events, including our monthly Social Good Organization Networking Nights and quarterly Training Seminars
  • Ensure that business growth is in alignment with Catchafire's social mission and vision
  • Responsibility for launching and growing one of the new cities we'll be expanding to this year
  • Support and strengthen organizational culture, values and reputation
  • Participate with the Sales team to make key sales process and pitch decisions
  • Directly report to the Head of Partnerships
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree a must
